.MOBI Domain Name Registrations
More and more people use mobile devices to access the Internet, so the need for mobile-friendly websites is steadily growing. To meet this demand, the entity that handles the universal top-level domains, ICANN, launched the dot MOBI extension in 2005. The first registrations were allowed in September 2006, and the idea behind this TLD is that all websites that use it need to comply with special regulations. In other words, all .MOBI websites are required to be developed to be opened without problems by mobile devices in accordance with the so-called “MWI Best Practices for mobile content” formulated by the W3C Mobile Web Initiative (MWI) in partnership with the dot MOBI Registry organization. These involve how a web page is being navigated, the way it is being displayed (form and size), etc.
The regulations have provoked some questions because the universal domain name extension is the only one that specifies what devices has to be able to open a website and the way in which this has to happen, breaking the so-called principles of device independence, according to which a website should be designed in such a way as to be viewed by the majority of browsers and devices, be they mobile or stationary.
In view of the fact that the .MOBI Registry organization does not sell domains directly, you can order a dot MOBI domain with any 3rd-party firm, such as ours. If you have an existing domain, you can also transfer it to our firm if you obtain its EPP transfer authorization key from your present registrar company. If you do that, you’ll be able to administer your domain(s) and hosting account from one and the same place – our Hepsia Control Panel interface.
