An access log features a record of all the files which have been requested by the visitors while surfing around your Internet site. The list is detailed, so when you have a web page with 2 embedded images, for example, all of the three files shall be in the log, not only the page. An access log typically includes the date, the OS, the web browser and the IP address for each file in human-readable form, so you can get a more complete picture about the hottest files on your site. The log, which is also commonly named "raw data", is an addition to the web statistics that you usually get with a hosting account, not a substitute. An illustration why you may need this sort of a log is if you want to use some software on your personal computer to prepare a report about the website’s functionality, but you do not want to use the standard graphs and tables that come with the server-generated web statistics.
Access Log Manager in Shared Website Hosting
Our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel includes a section focused on various logs and the access logs are one of them. As you sign in to your shared website hosting
account and visit this section, you will find a list of all the domain names
and subdomains you have. All it takes to permit the generation of access logs is to click on a button that will be available next to each domain/subdomain. In case the option is active, you will see a download link together with the file size so far, so you will be able to save the file to your laptop or computer and look at it or process it with some application. Enabling or disabling the logs takes effect immediately, so if you no longer need one, you could stop it with a click from the exact same section of the Control Panel. You will still be able to access the already generated content by simply clicking on the Download link.
Access Log Manager in Semi-dedicated Servers
If you host your sites in a semi-dedicated server
account with us, you'll have the option to enable or disable the generation of access logs with no more than several mouse clicks from your Hepsia hosting Control Panel. You will find this feature inside the Access/Error Logs section, which you can access once you sign in. All it takes for our system to start producing logs is a single click on the On button which you can see there. The feature can be enabled separately for any site regardless of whether it uses a domain name or a subdomain and you shall find the complete list of all the hosts within that section. Any access log can be downloaded as a text file with only a click and you can then look at it manually or use some software on your PC. The log generation can be disabled by simply switching the On option to Off within the Logs section of your CP.
